VIKING POWER SYSTEMS…… A BRIEF HISTORY

Established 1986 in Sydney, Australia as a generating set service company Viking has supplied power generation equipment and support in Australia and the Asia Pacific region for more than 25 years. Apart from Viking’s own product range the company has had distribution and marketing agreements with a number of other
internationally recognised generator set manufacturers. These included Onan Corporation (Later Onan/Cummins), Cummins Engine Company and Kohler Power Generation. For a lengthy period through the 1990’s we also managed and operated a fleet of portable “Musco Mobile Lighting” towers for the joint owners Musco Mobile (U.S.A.) and Nine Network Australia, with our company being the driving force behind making these unique lighting units available in the Australia Market.

For many years we also operated a large generator set rental fleet with most equipment designed and manufactured by Viking. The focus of our rental operation was the film and television industry although we also had a number of sets designed for the outdoor events industry. Our extensive motion picture credits during this period included well known movies such as “Mission Impossible 2”, “The Matrix” series and “Star Wars”. Al these films were shot in Australia with power generation equipment supplied by Viking.

Manufacturing of power generation equipment also played a major part in our success with our emphasis on producing custom built or low volume products for specialised applications. Our product range included (an still does include)… Film Silenced Generator Sets, Resistive Load Banks and sound reduction products such as acoustic
enclosures and exhaust silencers.
